Temporary exhibition starting in October, 2010:

"OUR SHIPWRECKEDS"

The exhibition and the resulting catalog presented this season 2009 - 2010 aims to be a reminder for those seafarers our (from Plentzia or very related) who perished at sea, drowned victims of shipwrecks unfortunately too frequent in those days and was going to ship all nations. The trips were full of risks, as great as was the skill of the captains had to abide by the hurricanes, storms, currents, fogs, acts of war ....

We have taken the period from 1900 to the current year and, chronologically, the exhibition tells the story of 14 neighbors, and the ship and the accident that killed. Stories like that of steam Principe de Asturias (the Titanic of the time they said), who in 1916 had a tragic end near Punta Boi (Brazil), with a balance of 425 victims and 143 survivors. Captain Jose Patricio Lotina Abrisqueta and chief engineer Dionisio Oņate Torrontegi, both from Plentzia, also died. Or the history of steam Banderas, who in 1940 sailed around the coast of Galicia when it was torpedoed and sunk by German submarine U-53. Captain José Antonio de Madariaga y Zabala, from Plentzia, died alongside 22 other crew members. But it is not our intention to describe the entire sample, so we invite you to come and meet the Museum in person.

Finally, we note that we have expanded the Museum's permanent exhibition with the addition of a painting by local Jenaro Urrutia. We have also reprinted the catalog From the sail to steam through the paint and we have the new 2010 calendar.
